Live captions

Read every conversation, live, in very large text.

Captions in the LiteScribe app show what people say on your phone as they say it, big enough to read at the table or across it. Made for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and for anyone who would rather read along.

  • iPhone and Android
  • A colour and a name for each voice
  • Every conversation kept

Made to be read

Everything on the Captions screen is there to make a whole conversation comfortable to read.

Text as large as you need

Captions are large from the start and go up to very large with a slider, in your phone's own font. Your phone's text size makes them larger still.

At the table or across it

Pick Normal; Flipped, so the person opposite can read what the app understood; or Face to face, with the screen split and the same lines facing each of you.

A colour and a name for each voice

Each voice gets its own colour and starts a new line. Tap a line to give that voice a first name, and all its lines take the name. No voiceprint is kept.

Three high-contrast themes

White on black, black on white or yellow on black. All three reach the AAA contrast level of 7:1, words in progress included.

Words that stay put

Words still being recognised are dimmed and underlined. Turn on Finished words only and each word appears a moment later, but never changes once shown.

Scroll back, then Back to live

Missed something? Scroll up to reread earlier lines while new ones keep coming, then tap Back to live to return to the newest words.

Pauses itself, so minutes are not wasted

After 5 minutes without new words, or 5 minutes away from the app, Captions pause by themselves and stop using minutes. Tap Resume to carry on.

The screen stays on

Your phone stays awake while Captions are open, so the text never goes dark in the middle of a sentence.

The conversation is kept

Press Stop and the conversation is saved in your LiteScribe library like any recording, with the names you gave. Read the summary, ask it questions, or open it on the web or your computer.

On your computer, over Zoom or Teams

In the LiteScribe desktop app for Windows, Mac and Linux, press Captions while you record a call, and a small window floats over it with the live words in large text.

  • Four text sizes, from small to extra large
  • A light or dark background that you can make more see-through
  • Move it and resize it anywhere on the screen
  • On Windows and Mac, hidden from screen shares: you see it, the people you share your screen with do not

Questions about Captions

For people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and for anyone who would rather read a conversation than follow it by ear: at a family meal, in a meeting, at an appointment or in a lecture.

Yes. Each voice gets its own colour and its own line, labelled Voice 1, Voice 2 and so on. Tap a line to type a first name, and every line from that voice takes it. The names stay with that conversation, and no voiceprint is kept.

Words still being recognised are dimmed and underlined, and only those can change. If changing words are hard to follow, turn on Finished words only: each word then appears a moment later and never changes once shown.

Yes. The words come from LiteScribe's live transcription, so the phone needs a connection. If the connection drops, the app keeps recording the audio on the phone, and Stop saves it.

Press Stop and it is saved in your LiteScribe library like any recording, with the names you gave. You can read the transcript and the summary, ask questions about it, and open it on the web, in the desktop app or on your phone. Recordings are never used to train AI.

Yes. In the LiteScribe desktop app for Windows, Mac and Linux, press Captions while you record a call, and the live words float in a window over Zoom, Teams or Google Meet. It has four text sizes, a light or dark background you can make more or less see-through, and on Windows and Mac it is hidden from screen shares.
