Ask ChatGPT about your recordings.
Connect LiteScribe to ChatGPT and it can search and read your recordings: transcripts, summaries, action items and folders. Ask what was decided in last week's calls and get answers with speakers, timestamps and links to the exact moment. ChatGPT adds custom apps like LiteScribe through developer mode on the web, which OpenAI offers on its Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans.

What you can ask
ChatGPT searches your recordings, reads the parts it needs and answers with quotes you can check.
What did we decide about pricing in last week's calls?
List my action items from October.
Find where Sarah talked about the launch date.
Summarize my interviews from this week in a table: who, the main points and the follow-ups.
Which lectures this semester covered the French Revolution? Give me the timestamps.
Write a short status update from every meeting in my Project Atlas folder this month.
Add LiteScribe to ChatGPT
OpenAI renames these menus from time to time. If a label looks different, follow OpenAI's help article "Developer mode and MCP apps in ChatGPT".
Before you start
- ChatGPT on the web. OpenAI does not run custom apps in the ChatGPT mobile apps.
- Developer mode, a ChatGPT beta. OpenAI lists it for the Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. On Pro, ChatGPT can use the read tools but not the change tools.
- On Business, only workspace admins and owners can turn on developer mode. On Enterprise and Edu, an admin may need to give you access first.
- 1
Turn on developer mode
On chatgpt.com, open Settings, then Apps, then Advanced settings, and switch on Developer mode.
- 2
Create the LiteScribe app
In Settings, Apps, select Create. Name it LiteScribe, enter https://mcp.litescribe.ai/mcp as the MCP server URL and choose OAuth for authentication. Newer versions of ChatGPT put this under Plugins, as + and then Add custom MCP server.
- 3
Sign in and approve
Accept OpenAI's warning about custom servers and select Scan Tools or Create. Sign in to LiteScribe in the window that opens and approve access. Allow changes only if you want ChatGPT to rename, move or share recordings.
- 4
Use it in a chat
Start a new chat, select LiteScribe from the + menu or type @LiteScribe, and ask your question. Select it again for each message that needs your recordings.
What the connector can do
Your AI app picks the tool and LiteScribe runs it on your account. Seven tools read your recordings. Three optional tools make small changes, only if you allow them.
Read tools
get_account- Your plan and the transcription minutes you have left this month.
search_recordings- Searches your recordings by words, date range, folder, speaker, language and source: meeting, upload, desktop, mobile, extension or YouTube.
get_recording- A recording's summary, action items, chapters, topics and speakers.
get_transcript- The transcript as speaker turns with timestamps, a page at a time, including translations you saved.
find_moments- Quotes that answer a question, each with the speaker, the time and a link that opens the player at that second.
list_action_items- Action items across your recordings in a date range, each with the recording it came from.
list_folders- Your folders, so the AI app can search inside one of them.
Change tools (optional)
These exist only if you allow changes when you connect, and your AI app asks you before each one.
rename_recording- Gives a recording a new title.
move_recording- Moves a recording to another folder.
create_share_link- Creates a share link for a recording.
No tool deletes anything.
AI assistant connections
You can connect AI apps such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code to your LiteScribe account through our MCP server at mcp.litescribe.ai. This section explains what a connected app can access and how you stay in control.
What a connected app can read
Details of your recordings (such as title, date, length, source, language and speakers), transcripts, summaries, action items and folders. An app gets this access only after you sign in to LiteScribe and approve the connection.
Changes are optional
If you allow changes when you connect, the app can also rename a recording, move it to another folder or create a share link, and it asks you before each change. No connected app can delete anything.
Local Mode
Local Mode recordings that were never synced to your account stay on your device and are not visible to connected apps.
Sign-in and access tokens
You connect with your LiteScribe sign-in, not an API key. Access tokens are short-lived and are stored hashed by our authorization server, which runs on Cloudflare.
Disconnecting
The Integrations page in LiteScribe lists every connected app. You can disconnect any of them at any time, which ends its access.
What the connected app does with your data
The AI app does the reasoning. For these requests LiteScribe returns the data the app asks for and does not send it to its own AI model. What the app then does with that data is governed by the app's own terms and privacy policy.
What we log
To keep the service secure and prevent abuse, we log which tool was called, by which connected app and when. We do not log the content.
No model training
We do not use your data to train AI models.
Questions and answers
Q.Which ChatGPT plans can connect LiteScribe?
ChatGPT connects custom servers through developer mode, a beta that OpenAI's help center lists for Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu on the web. On Pro, ChatGPT can use LiteScribe's read tools but not the change tools. On Business, only admins and owners can turn developer mode on. On the LiteScribe side, every plan works, including Free.
Q.Does it work in the ChatGPT mobile app?
Not today. OpenAI supports custom apps in ChatGPT on the web only, not in its mobile apps.
Q.Why does ChatGPT show a warning when I add LiteScribe?
ChatGPT shows that warning for every custom server added in developer mode. LiteScribe's tools only read your own recordings unless you allow changes, and no tool deletes anything.
Q.Will ChatGPT ask before it changes anything?
Yes. ChatGPT asks you to confirm write actions such as renaming a recording or creating a share link, and those tools exist only if you allowed changes when you connected.
Q.Do I need an API key?
No. You choose OAuth when you create the app, then sign in with your normal LiteScribe account and approve the connection. There is no key to create, copy or rotate.
Q.Does the connector cost anything?
No. Connecting is free on every LiteScribe plan, including the free plan, and reading your recordings uses no transcription minutes. Minutes are only used when you record or upload audio.
Q.Which recordings can the AI app see?
The recordings in your LiteScribe account, whether they came from a meeting, an upload, the desktop app, the mobile apps, the Chrome extension or a YouTube link, in any of the 99 languages LiteScribe transcribes. Local Mode recordings that never synced stay on your device and are not visible.
Q.Does LiteScribe run its own AI on my transcripts for this?
No. Your AI app does the reasoning. LiteScribe finds the recordings and returns the text the app asks for, and does not send your transcripts to its own AI model for these requests.
Q.Can the AI app delete or change my recordings?
It cannot delete anything, because no tool does that. It can rename a recording, move it to another folder or create a share link only if you allowed changes when you connected, and your AI app asks you before each change.
Q.How do I disconnect?
Open the Integrations page in LiteScribe, where every connected app is listed, and disconnect it. That ends its access. You can also remove LiteScribe from the AI app itself.
Q.Is my data used to train AI models?
LiteScribe does not use your data to train models. Once the AI app has received your text, its own terms and privacy settings decide how it is stored and used, so check that app's settings too.
Your recordings, in the AI app you already use
Create a free LiteScribe account, record or upload something, then connect your AI app. The free plan includes 120 minutes of transcription every month.
