Why translate French to Portuguese with LiteScribe
Two Romance languages
French and Portuguese share Romance roots, so the translation reads naturally between them.
Nasal vowels correct
The Portuguese translation keeps nasal vowels (the ao ending and the til) and the cedilla right, which French does not use.
Speaker labels carry over
Diarization on the French audio means the Portuguese translation preserves who said what.

What makes French and Portuguese distinct
French
Francais
- Family
- Romance
- Script
- Latin (LTR)
- Speakers
- ~310 million across five continents
- Where
- France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada (Quebec), and large parts of West and Central Africa
French is full of liaison and elision: final consonants link into the next word ("les amis" sounds like "lezami") and vowels contract ("je ai" becomes "j'ai"), so word boundaries are acoustically blurred. Nasal vowels and silent endings mean the model leans heavily on context, and accented characters (e, e, a, c) must be preserved for the text to read correctly.
Portuguese
Portugues
- Family
- Romance
- Script
- Latin (LTR)
- Speakers
- ~265 million speakers
- Where
- Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, and other Lusophone countries
Brazilian and European Portuguese diverge noticeably: European Portuguese reduces unstressed vowels heavily so words sound clipped, while Brazilian Portuguese is more open and vowel-rich. Nasal vowels (the ao ending, the til over a and o) and the cedilla (the c with a cedilla) are meaning-bearing and must be preserved for the transcript to be correct in either variant.
A worked example
French (source)
Merci de votre presence; nous allons revoir les chiffres du trimestre avant de passer aux questions.
Portuguese (translation)
Obrigado pela vossa presenca; vamos rever os numeros do trimestre antes de passar as perguntas.
As two Romance languages, the structures align: "nous allons revoir les chiffres" maps to "vamos rever os numeros", though the Portuguese adds nasal vowels the French does not have.
